By the time I arrived at the doors of the Hotel Capo d’ Africa in Rome, I was exhausted. After two flights-one from New York and one from Paris—the only thing keeping me from collapsing on the large bed was the sheer excitement of being back in the Eternal City.
It was my first time back in Rome since back when I was a freshly-graduated high school senior who was more concerned about ordering a drink than seeing the sights. This time-being well past the novelty of drinking wine at a restaurant—I arrived in Rome with my boyfriend, Jeff, for the first stop on our grand European adventure. Over the next few weeks, we would move from city to city, country to country, staying at beautiful hotels, cramped hostels and everything in-between. After long train rides, full days of sightseeing and impromptu trips through countries, there was nothing quite like coming home to a warm bed at a nice hotel.
First Impressions of the Hotel Capo d’ Africa
The very first thing you’ll notice about the Hotel Capo d’ Africa is its prime location within walking distance of the Colosseum. The Hotel Capo d’ Africa is a 4-star hotel offering rooms at a mid-range budget (an awesome deal considering the over-priced competition that saturate this popular area). The front of the hotel is painted a cheery yellow and is framed by two, large palm trees. The hotel has a boutique feel lending it more personality than the average cookie-cutter, manufactured hotel chains out there.
The Details: The Room & Dining
The Hotel Capo d’ Africa offers a variety of rooms-suites, deluxe, premiums-to suit every budget. The room I stayed in featured a large, comfortable bed and all the expected, modern amenities one would hope for in a hotel. The best part of the room was the floor to ceiling windows and balconies that overlooked the charming Capo d’ Africa avenue below. Because of this balcony, the room felt less like a hotel and more like an idyllic Roman home where I could picture (even for a day) what my Italian dream life would be like.
For on-site dining & drinks, the hotel offers three options: Bistro L’Attico, Centrum Bar and La Terrazza. By far one of the best features of Hotel Capo d’ Africa is its breathtaking terrace with surrounding views of Rome’s rooftops and ruins; the hotel plays to its strengths by offering rooftop dining and drinks each evening for guests.
Book this hotel if…
The Hotel Capo d’ Africa is a perfect option for travelers on a mid-level budget that are looking for a great, highly-rated hotel that won’t burn a hole in their wallet. The hotel is ideally located for tourists-with many of Rome’s main attractions just a quick walk from its entrance—so is perfect for anyone who wants to be near the heart of Rome.
