When I first started blogging, I would look to my favorite bloggers for tips on how to turn my hobby into a career. I would spend hours trying to learn from the best. Eventually my blog grew to the point that I too could share my own advice. In my blogging tips section, I share insider knowledge on blogging and how to grow a successful site. From how to build a following to how to earn money, my blogging tips aim to give readers everything needed to become successful. One effective way I’ve managed to grow The Pin the Map Project is through syndication partnerships. If this is your first time hearing about syndication partnerships then get comfortable. I’m going to tell you why syndication is absolutely crucial in the success of your website.
What is a Syndication Partnership?
Simply put, a syndication partnership is when a blogger partners with another publication to have their content pushed out on their platform. There are three types of main syndication partnerships:
Social syndication - When a publication will share your posts on their social media pages.
Editorial syndication - When a publication re-posts your articles on their website.
Video syndication - When a publication or brand shares your video content on their platform or social pages.
What’s the Benefit to a Syndication Partnership?
A syndication partnership is a mutually beneficial arrangement for a content creator (you) and a publication to gain exposure. The publication benefits from gaining your readership and reaching a niche audience, while you benefit from new people discovering your site!
A Real Example…
The Pin the Map Project recently partnered with a major online publication for a syndication partnership. To give you an idea of how this works, after signing a contract with the team, I sent over my RSS feed for my blog. What the team at the publication then does is choose posts they feel are a good fit for the site and then will share them on their platform. The posts they pull from The Pin the Map Project are formatted to fit their website but are ultimately attributed to The Pin the Map Project, allowing for great exposure of the blog.
How to Snag a Syndication Deal…
Start by researching the publications you would ideally like to partner with. Do they post other people’s content or only their own articles? Does the publication work with contributing writers or only staff writers? Does the publication share articles from other sites on their social media? After you do some research, e-mail the publication and introduce yourself. Your email should be brief and tell them who you are, why the publication can benefit from partnering with you.
Remember that a syndication partnership needs to be mutually beneficial for you and the publication. Make sure to send 3-4 links to posts that you feel would be a good fit for the publication and would be worth them sharing. Sharing relevant posts shows them you understand their brand and have done your research!

Such great tips, Nikki and something I hadn’t really thought about until now. Need to look into syndication partnerships for The Department of Wandering! xx
I had never heard of this before. Great advice. Do the partners look for a blogger with a decent following? I’m constantly thinking I don’t have a large enough audience to approach partners and I always questioning if my stuff is even good enough.
It’s a good question! When I first started blogging, I was afraid to approach brands for opportunities because I figured they’d laugh at me and my measly following. Here’s the thing though-you have NOTHING to lose from asking. Worst case, they ignore your email or don’t respond. Best case, you get an amazing opportunity to expand your audience and website. My advice to you is to ALWAYS ask and ALWAYS chase opportunities. Even if you think you’re not qualified for it, who cares? 🙂
If you have any questions let me know! Feel free to shoot me an email ([email protected]) and happy to put you directly in touch with the people I’m working with 🙂 Love your content.
