Welcome to the first, official PTM Book Club!
While I love reading, admittedly I don’t read nearly as much as I should. Being a writer, reading is the main ingredient to success. Devouring the stories of other celebrated writers helps shape our own work, inspire new stories and elevate our technique of story telling. It’s been a goal of mine to try and make a point of reading more and so I’m launching the PTM Book Club in hopes of discovering new books and discussing them at length with my readers!
Now, on to this month’s book!
Gloria Steinem. If you haven’t heard her name before, you should know it. As a feminist, journalist, traveler and activist; Steinem helped redefine what it means to be a woman at a time when sexism reigned supreme.
Founder of the feminist magazine, Ms. Magazine, and co-founder of the Women’s Media Center; Steinem is a fierce champion of women’s rights around the world.
In her latest endeavor, Steinem is the face of the new Viceland show, WOMAN, which covers women’s rights issues in brilliantly edited correspondent segments. (If you haven’t seen WOMAN, I cannot recommend it enough!)
I’ve heard rave reviews of her new book, My Life on the Road, which chronicles Steinem’s stories and lessons from her years spent traveling. Full of real life inspiration, I’ve chosen Steinem’s book to kick off PTM Book Club as it seems an essential read for both women and travelers alike.
Pick up your copy of My Life on the Road and see you back here August 1st to discuss Steinem’s book! Here’s hoping we walk away with some stellar life advice, serious writing inspiration and even some wanderlust. If you have any recommendations for next month’s book, share it below!
