Admittedly, I’m not one of the most stylish travel bloggers out there (a funny thing to confess given that once upon a time I was an aspiring fashion blogger). When I go on assignment abroad, more often than not I throw on my favorite white t-shirt, leather jacket, jeans and call it a day. My look while traveling has always been a carefree style, but as I get into my late twenties and travel more often, I’m realizing that traveling (or even backpacking) doesn’t mean having to look as though I’ve been living in a hostel for 3 months.
While I was backpacking around Europe last month with my boyfriend, Jeff, we made it a point to pack extra light in an effort to avoid those pesky baggage fees on our connecting flights between countries. As a result, we had a lot of repeat outfits, left behind majority of our dressy clothes and ended up wearing what was comfortable. When we finally arrived in Amsterdam, Jeff and I had an event to attend at a local hotel and reveled in the simple pleasure of getting dressed up. He pulled on a nice button-down shirt while I swiped on red lipstick and a black dress I had packed. After days of seeing each other in the same jeans, t-shirts and looking like vagabonds, we felt like a million bucks that evening! I realized in that moment that to be a serious traveler doesn’t necessarily mean foregoing style; in fact, my go-to looks can even make me feel at home when I’m miles away. To celebrate travel and style, I’ve launched the new SHOP on The Pin the Map Project, where readers can shop some of my favorite looks.
